OK, as for the annoying markdown problem, I think I found a pattern. The unicodes for the characters the markdown hates are 3060, 30E0, 4F60, 51E0, and 52A0. But character 4EC0 (什) is working fine. I conjecture that the markdown hates characters with unicodes ending in 20, 60, A0, or E0, in other words 1 in every 64 characters. If my assumption is correct, the following sentence should have the 4 characters I put brackets around show up as ?&nbsp:
